Charging Up the Five Senses

Five Senses

Don’t you love when you are able to see a beautiful sunset or when you are able to smell a delicious dinner? You can learn to charge your five senses and then you can experience the world from a different perspective.

If you find that you aren’t able to smell as good as you want or to hear as good as you hoped, there are things that you can do to strengthen these senses.

Understanding the Five Senses

Our senses help us to live a better life. They help us to be able to notice things around us and to be able to understand the world by the information going from our senses to our brains:

  • Seeing

Sight is when there are objects that have light reflected off of them. The light goes through the cornea and the lenses and then this makes an image. This is how we see.

  • Touching

Touching is when you touch something with your finger or with a part of your body and you notice sensations based on the temperature, vibrations of the object, pressure and even in pain.

  • Tasting

Tasting is done through taste buds found on your tongue and in your mouth. These taste buds have different forms including:

  • Sweet.
  • Salty.
  • Sour.
  • Bitter.
  • Savory.

Tasting also has to do with how we enjoy food or even how much a spicy food burns our mouths.

  • Hearing

Hearing happens when a wave of sound goes through the ear and vibrates the eardrum. This has to do with soundwaves and how the sound is channeled from the ear to the brain.

  • Smelling

Smelling and taste go hand in hand, but smell happens when there are smells that are transmitted to the brain.

Charging the Five Senses

There are different things that you can do to charge your five senses. There are different receptors in your body that will help you to understand what you are learning and what you are perceiving in your body. This can be things like texture of something or the aroma of things.

The things that happen in your life can help you to be successful. If you want to do your job better, you need to get skills and if you want to get good at sports, you have to practice. You can do the same thing when it comes to charging your five senses.

Why Charge Your Five Senses?

Maybe your senses are fine, and you are happy in your life but if you need to smell, hear, taste, feel or see better you can. Here are some reasons you might want to charge your senses:

  • To be able to be present in the moment.
  • If you have a sickness that has hurt your senses.
  • Vitamin deficiencies that affect your senses.
  • Are hypersensitive or have a hypersensitive disorder.
  • Age causes a decline in senses.
  • Allergies that affect your senses.

Charging Your Senses

Rather you want to better your life or not, there are simple things that you can do to charge your senses:

  • Olfactory Training

If you have had a hard time smelling, you can do an olfactory training, and this can help you. You can do this anywhere you are. You can create new pathways in your nose to help you. You can make your senses stronger by being more mindful about what you are smelling. Notice things that you smell that you normally ignore. Write them down.

Do olfactory training and smell a perfume or a food. Do this with spices that are strong. You can also use essential oils that you roll on your body or that you open to smell.

  • Foods for the Eyes

There are foods that can help you when you want to make your eyesight better. Eat foods that are rich in antioxidants such as:

  • Cranberries.
  • Strawberries.
  • Cherries.
  • Oranges.
  • Carrots.
  • Spinach.
  • Sweet potatoes.
  • Oregano.
  • Parsley.
  • Basil.
  • Thyme.
  • Peppermint.
  • Almonds.
  • Walnuts.
  • Cashews.
  • Apple Juice.
  • Tomato juice.
  • Quit Smoking

Smoking can affect many parts of your body including your sense of smell and your sense of taste. It can damage your senses and dull your taste buds. It can also affect y our cochlea because it can’t get the right amount of oxygen that it should get.

Smoking can make your eyes worse and cause you to get cataracts which can eventually cause blindness.

  • Exercise

Exercising can help you in many ways. It can help your body, but it can also help you with smell and other great benefits.

Studies have shown that exercise can cause the blood flow to increase in your nasal passages and this can improve how you smell things.

Your hearing can also improve by allowing blood to circulate through your ears and your nerves to make the auditory cortex make better sound.

Eyesight and Focus to Make Touch Strong

Has your arm or feet ever fallen asleep and given you a tingling sensation? If so, this is part of your touch, and it can make you feel sensitive to this sensation.

The touch you have can happen because of sicknesses such as diabetes or stroke and this can cause you to not be as sensitive touch. This can also decrease with age.

You can make this better by paying more attention and being mindful to what you are touching. Touch something and then focus on it and think about how it feels and how it looks. You can practice this anytime.

Avoid These Things

You can charge your senses, but you can also dull them. Here are some things that you need to avoid that can cause your senses to become duller:

  • Having a cold or an infection.
  • Certain medicines.
  • Cancer treatments.
  • Getting older.
  • Alcohol.
  • Tobacco.
  • Allergic reactions.
  • Unhealthy dieting.
